Chapter 2 - My understanding of Sukyo Mahikari

About this chapter

This chapter deals with the author’s understanding of Sukyo Mahikari – the name of the organisation and what it means; the Light of God; the purpose of the organisation; how people get started; the significance of the holy places that have been established; and how all this fits in with the plan of God.

He also refers to some of the misconceptions and problems that have arisen as the organisation evolved. Why is it that through Sukyo Mahikari, many people continue to find joy, inspiration and meaning in life, whereas some have been disappointed, even though many of these people experienced more or less the same sorts of things in the early days?

The mere mention of words such as “God”, “spirits”, “reincarnation” and so on, normally give the impression that the topic is religion, but Sukyo refers to universal laws, laws that are everlasting and unchanging, that operate and apply to everyone whether one is aware of them or not. It is just like breathing air, which is a fundamental, essential process for life and has nothing to do with one’s belief.

In one sense, the Sukyo Mahikari organisation can be called religious, but from other points of view it can also be called medical or scientific, as becomes apparent in the various chapters of the book.

One aim is to cooperate harmoniously with people from all backgrounds to establish a God-centred civilisation on earth where the material blessings of nature are used for the common good of humankind in a responsible way.

The teachings allow a better understanding of the world we live in and the underlying causes of various problems. Frequent purification with True Light, together with the practice of the universal laws, enables health, harmony and material wellbeing to be achieved.

Comments from a reader

“I gave a copy of the book to a friend in Australia. She was so excited by the contents that she visited a Mahikari Centre in Australia and prepared to do the next primary course. She is a Catholic and she said: 'The book has changed my life'.

Another friend who read the book said: 'I have never read this kind of book before!!! This book is very impressive (a small word for me to describe it). One can learn the concepts about life explained in a lucid manner, and it is easy to understand for a person like me, who is not a member practicing Mahikari. I would like to buy a copy'."
